In our efforts towards sustainability and to reducing our Green House Gas (GHG) footprint, Green Coast Rubbish recently completed Climate Smart — a carbon tracking and reduction program for businesses. Using 2010 as our baseline, we were able to measure our carbon emissions in metric tonnes, as well as plan our emission reductions for the coming year.

Green Coast Rubbish is committed to reducing our GHG footprint, and our projected reductions will contribute to a total savings 0.96925 tonnes of co2e for 2011. We will accomplish this by:
1. Offering transit passes to employees
2. Using direct deposit to reduce paper use
3. Installing GPS units in all of our vehicles to maximize route efficiency
4. Continue to reduce the amount of waste that is sent to landfill though waste
diversion and recycling practices
5. Powering down ‘phantom load’ devices at night
6. Investigating weather stripping for doors and windows
7. In the near future, use lower emissions vehicles (Bio Fuel)
