Due to our temperate coastal climate, North Shore residents get to enjoy the mildest weather that Canada has to offer. Unfortunately, we also have to endure more than our fair share of rain—close to 1200 mm or 48 inches annually—which explains why our lush forests stay green year-round. However, these soggy and mild weather conditions can also lead to overgrown yards and unruly tree growth if left unattended.
We recently did a backyard clean-up in North Vancouver that involved clearing out a massive pile of green debris, as well as doing some selective pruning on a cedar tree that was at least a century old. At the end of the day we were able to remove 1.7 tonnes of green waste, which we were more than happy to compost.
All geared up for my tree climb. To my right, the massive pile of green debris before Green Coast Rubbish, which had been accumulating since our last visit nearly two years ago.
The green pile post Green Coast. What a difference!
The cedar tree before the climb and prune. This tree was at least 100 years old, and its canopy engulfed the backyard in shade. The client wanted more light penetration in his backyard, so we decided to raise the canopy by removing a few key branches in order let more light through.
During the climb, working ever so carefully at 80ft above the ground.
Post climb and prune. Mission accomplished-the back yard has sun again!
Do you have a large tree or shrub in your yard? If so, did you know that trees should be examined periodically for potential hazards? As a trained Arborist, I have seen firsthand the result of leaving problematic trees and shrubs unattended and left to grow unrestrained. For example:
- Trees that are too close to power lines can cause fires, power outages, and surges.
- Leaves and branches can clog gutters, promote rot, or otherwise damage property.
- Broken, snagged, or dead limbs are simply an accident waiting to happen.
- Damaged, diseased, or otherwise weak trees may fall and endanger lives and or property.
Don’t let your unruly trees and shrubs go unattended. Call Green Coast Rubbish today to have all your tree problems solved and have your yard reclaimed.
