Green Coast Rubbish is happy to announce that we have been awarded the 2018 HomeStars Giving Back Award for British Columbia. This HomeStars award recognizes companies across Canada who go above and beyond to help out their communities, putting in time, effort and labor to give back in any way they can. We also received a “Best Of” award based on the excellent customer reviews we received on our HomeStars page this year.
Giving Back with Donations
One way Green Coast Rubbish gives back to the community is by donating all of the reusable items we pick up from our clients – including furniture, clothing, household goods, and valuable building materials. In 2017, we gave 5.27 tonnes (over 11,000 lbs) of donations to charities who were able to raise money by selling the items to benefit local families who need help with food, shelter, medical, and/or other services. Our community partners include the Salvation Army, Canadian Diabetes Association, Helping Families in Need Society and Spinal Cord Injury BC.
Community Partnership with Habitat for Humanity
Since 2016, Green Coast Rubbish has been partnering with Habitat for Humanity on their innovative deconstruction program. This program diverts architectural waste from home renovations away the landfill. It also creates valuable skills building and work experience opportunities for volunteers and raises money to build affordable housing for local families. Green Coast donates our services, completing demolition work, recycling and debris removal from the site. We are proud to have completed 9 deconstruction projects with Habitat for Humanity, donating 15 kitchens as well as appliances, furniture and building supplies with a value of approximately $22,000.
More Ways to Give
Green Coast Rubbish supports a number of community groups via fundraising, sponsorships, volunteer work and by donating services. For example:
- In 2017, Green Coast Rubbish co-sponsored both a Spring and Fall Cleanup Event in North Vancouver for residents to drop off their junk for free disposal.
- CEO & President Eamonn Duignan visited Rainforest Learning Center and talked to the children about the importance of recycling and showed them our truck.
- We like to support a wide variety of deserving causes in our community. In 2017, recipients included the Harvest Project, North Shore Mountain Bike Association, Lynn Valley Parent Advisory Council, Lynn Valley Community Association, Special Olympics BC, Lynn Valley Christmas Parade of Trees, Lynn Valley Days, BC Cancer Society, BMO Vancouver Marathon and the Fall for Local Event in North Vancouver.
HomeStars is a free online community that helps homeowners find the best home improvement companies by searching their database of companies and customer reviews. Every year, HomeStars goes over the thousands of companies and reviews in their database to find those who have gone above and beyond in their industry. And each year, HomeStars reveals their Best of Award winners…
Green Coast Rubbish is honoured to receive a Best Of award in 2018 which recognizes customer service excellence, integrity and consistency.
Feeling Grateful
“We are grateful for these HomeStars awards. We do our best for our customers and our community every day and it’s very fulfilling to be recognized this way. I couldn’t be more proud of my team for all of their hard work and community spirit,” says Eamonn Duignan, President & CEO, Green Coast Rubbish.
