As we ease into 2019, the Green Coast team would like to pause and reflect on the events and accomplishments of the past year. We enjoyed many highs – with memorable projects, community contributions, and awards – and grieved through the lows with the passing of a dear friend and team member. Here’s what we’ll always remember as we say goodbye to 2018.

SWEET STATS

Green Coast strives to create healthier and greener communities every day with environmentally conscious waste diversion services. This year, we diverted an industry leading 82% of the waste we collected from our residential and commercial clients away from the landfill. That’s 550 tonnes (or 1,212,057 lbs!) of materials diverted away from local landfills to recycling and community donations in 2018. We couldn’t be any prouder of our team!

COMMUNITY

Green Coast is all about giving back and taking care of the community we live in and love!

Community Giving

The Green Coast team gives back every day through our business practice of donating the reusable goods and materials we collect from our clients to charitable organizations who raise funds to benefit the community by selling these goods. The proceeds assist the most vulnerable members of our society who may need help with food, shelter, medical and/or other services for their families. Our community partners include the Harvest Project, Salvation Army, Neil Squire Society, Canadian Diabetes Association, Shelter to Home, Helping Families in Need Society and Habitat for Humanity.

We also love to participate in local fundraisers and sponsorships to benefit the community throughout the year. Organizations we support include the North Shore Mountain Bike Association, Lynn Valley Parent Advisory Council (Pumpkin Patch Fundraiser), Lynn Valley Community Association, Special Olympics BC, Lynn Valley Christmas Parade of Trees, Lynn Valley Days, BC Cancer Society, BMO Vancouver Marathon and the Fall for Local Event in North Vancouver … more

Community Partnership with North Vancouver Homes

Green Coast Rubbish has been partnering with North Vancouver Homes on a semi-annual Spring and Fall Cleanup event for the past few years. This community initiative invites North Vancouver residents to drop off their junk, used clothing, unwanted household items, and sporting goods at a central location where the Green Coast team is waiting to assist them with recycling.

SAYING GOODBYE

This year, we recognized the tragic passing of one of our long-time Green Coast family members. Sean had a great sense of humour and was loved by many people. He was intelligent, kind, outgoing and a natural leader with so much potential. Sean was tragically taken from us a few days before his 22nd birthday but he will always be remembered. We love and miss you, Sean.
